My roommate asked me a question last night.
She is from Haiti and English is her second language.
My roommate: “Do I have an accent? Like, different from standard american english? Can you tell I’m from Haiti?”
Me: ”Well, technically, everyone has an accent… (Insert technical definitions here) and “standard” american english is not easy to define… (I wrote a paper on the subject last semester)”
My roommate: *Face Palm* “This is why you don’t ask a linguistics major questions…”
asking me questions about language is probably one of the more irritating experiences you can have. fyi. :D
